We've been together for six years now;
We have pots and pans and linens and towels;
We have glasses and toasters, really quite a few;
So instead of more gifts, we suggest this to you;
If it doesn't offend and it won't send you running;
What we would really appreciate is quite simply money;
We know choosing gifts can be such a pain;
And this way there is no chance of bringing the same!

MAX IS GOING TO BE SO HOT.
We can't wait to celebrate at the beautiful Hard Rock Hotel Resort in the Riviera Maya! Between the beaches, the poolside bars, and the 24/7 room service... we might never leave! Unless the A/C fails, then Max will be on the first flight out....
It was June 11, 2016...
According to what I (Katie) knew, we were going to Edmonds Beach that morning to surprise my Dad for an early Father's Day brunch. My sister Melanie called me early that day and said, "Hey whatcha wearing? I was going to get dressed up, but I don't want to be the only one." I reluctantly agreed to wear a dress for her sake (clever girl, Mel!). On our way there, we got a last minute text from my mom saying that they were running 30 minutes late, so we were to just stall and she would text us when they were getting close. We thought great, let's go down to the ferry landing and play with the kids on the beach.
We ended up being the first ones down there, so Max and I started walking along the path. I pointed out where my mom got white-girl-wasted the summer before, and the bush my Dad tripped over after Melanie and I ambushed him with a pail of cold ocean water... then Max casually asked about this area on the other side of the path where scuba divers can go to practice diving. I was shocked he had never seen it before, so I told him I would take him over there to show him. When we got to the end of the path, he said let's take a picture! We turned around to get the sun on our faces and that's when I saw it: this group of people walking our way.
It was both of our families. The 4 kids were in front, all dressed up, holding a sign in each of their hands with one word on it that, together, read out "Will You Marry Me". I turned around and Max was down on one knee with tears in his eyes.
I instantly broke out into ugly sobs and just cried and cried. And then I realized I forgot to say "Yes!". 6 years of waiting and he totally caught me by surprise! When I turned back around the kids had flipped their signs over which read "She said yes! <3"
We all went out to brunch to celebrate and then afterwards Max and I went back to the beach to relax. We had gone out the night before and he said that he needed to lay down for awhile before getting back into the car (he gets car-sick when he's hungover). We waited for a couple hours before it started to rain a little.
I had booked us a camping site a fews night prior (obviously unaware of his plans for that day) and I was still determined to make it out there. I told him that he could just lay down when we got home and that I would pack up the car. But when I opened the door to our house, deafening screams came radiating out "SURPRISE!!!!!" And I started ugly crying all over again.
All of our friends and both of our families were inside with bottles of champagne and a sign that read " 'Bout Freakin' Time!". Apparently, the hangover was a diversion to allow enough time for our families to race back to the house to get all the food and decorations set up (though I think that they anticipated only an hour, and Max needed to rest for longer...)
We partied all day and all night. It's safe to say... the man did good!!!
Guy meets Girl. They become friends. Guy asks Girl on date. They fall in love. They move in together. They get a second cat. Move across the country. Move back. Guy gives girl ring. They get two dogs. They go to Mexico.
They get married.
The year was 2011. The day was March 4. He asked her to have a lunch date at his house, she said yes. He prepared a Mexican feast and greeted her at the door with a Corona and lime. They ate. They laughed. He went to work. She stayed and finished all the food. He came back and asked what happened to all the food. She blamed the wine. He forgave her.
During the 6 years of their relationship...
He introduced her to sushi, Marvel comic book movies, and Rummikub. She introduced him to chess, The Notebook, and eggs benedict. Together, they have shared a love for camping, going to local festivals and farmers markets, board games, and river floating.
He has unfortunately failed at getting her to like videogames, and she has failed at getting him to admit that he loves Red Robin as much as she does.
There's been many laughs, many tears, many fights, and many lessons learned. Lots of family dinners and holiday get togethers. They've gone on several roadtrips, including 1 cross-country trip when they moved home from Maryland. While together, 4 of their sisters have gotten married and they have joyously welcomed 2 new nephews and 1 new niece to the family.
They've supported each other through 2 cases of food poisoning, 100+ hangovers, and 1 ER visit (where he later saw the same doctor from the ER dancing on top of the bar at Rain Sushi).
He is better at cooking, giving directions, remembering stories correctly, and saying no to candy. She is better at cleaning, decorating the house for holidays, Boggle, and spontaneously scaring him.
They love to watch jeopary, throw Halloween parties, and have rainy-day Harry Potter movie marathons. They give each other back scratchies and head massagies every night.
Their love is as strong as it is effortless... and it continues to grow everyday!

Max is a true Seattleite, born and raised here in the beautiful PNW. He loves the outdoors, listening to podcasts, hanging out with family and friends, taking long walks, drinking craft beer, running around with our dogs, and playing videogames (we have lots of rainy days here for that!). His strong dislikes include doing the dishes, waking up early, going to Target with me, being hot (AKA anything over 65 degrees) and... water chestnuts.
When I first met Max, I was instantly drawn to his sense of humor. He is so quick-witted and naturally funny that no matter where he went, everybody loved to be around him... including me. It's the reason why we became such great friends in the beginning! He also had a strong loyalty to his friends: always helping people move, showing up to birthday parties and BBQ's, bringing people coffee just to say "Hi"... and he never shied away from some of the weirder or crazier things... like playing soccer in the snow or having impromptu Kinect Dance-offs in his living room. Of course, after all these years, I've come to realize that these moments are hardly out-of-the-norm for him!
Some of my favorite memories of Max include:
- Him dressing up as Russell from the movie Up (he made his boy scout badges out of flattened bottle caps)
- When he accidentally shaved off his beard using Hayden's electric razor and emerged looking like a 14yr old version of himself
- When he overcame his fear of heights and went on the tallest free falling roller coaster ride @ Six Flags in New Jersey (he was so nervous that we actually stood in line in total silence)
- Seeing him hold his niece Quinn for the first time and not knowing how to hand her off to the next person
- The aftermath of swimming in my Aunt Reece and Uncle Steve's pool during the 4th of July. I'll give you a hint: they live in Memphis, it was HOT, and they needed to use A LOT of chemicals to clear the water. Chemicals and man-bits are not friends...
- Getting stuck in the Chicago airport with our two cats while we were moving to Maryland (without smart phones to tell us what to do... thank god for both of our parents and Lizzie who tag-teamed to get us a rental car and hotel room)
- Riding the mechanical bull at the Caeser's hotel in New Jersey
- Sitting in awe on our front porch in Maryland during his first true thunderstorm (we don't get them here in in Washington)
- Kayaking off the San Juan Islands and accidentally getting caught up in a pod of Orca whales
- The day he proposed.
My point is, Max is awesome and if you're reading this then you probably already know that yourself... Lucky for me, I get to marry this man!

Katie was born in Tennessee and raised in Oklahoma; when she was about 11 her family embarked on an epic journey across the country. Eventually they decided to settle in Washington after realizing the Pacific Northwest is totally bitchin’. Family comes first and foremost for Katie, and she is the kind of person that would move across the country (cats in tow) just to see her niece grow up. Although she could thrive anywhere (that has a Red Robin and TJ Maxx), Katie is a perfect fit in Seattle and is proud to now call it home.
A natural born adventurer and thrill-seeker, Katie is always looking for the next roller coaster to ride or plane to jump out of. Even at a young age, she could be found leading explorations into the depths of her local Oklahoma storm drains or tearing up the asphalt with her razor scooter down the one hill in Oklahoma. Katie is always ready for new experiences, and in her own words: “I’ll try anything at least once” (well… until I made her try escargot).
Katie is the life of the party and makes it her priority that everyone is having fun. Her innate charm and sense of humor draws people in and she can’t help making new friends everywhere she goes. Most people don’t know this, but just like the 6 million dollar man, Katie was actually rebuilt by the government and is now half human and half machine – Half dancing MACHINE; if there is a dance floor, she will be on it… all night long… way after everyone else has left. There is never a dull moment when Katie is around; even at work she is notorious for being the office ninja and is somehow always perched right around the corner ready to scare the ish out of you.
Katie in 11 words:
If you don’t love Katie as much as I do, it’s probably just because you haven’t met her yet.
It's finally happening people...
WE'RE GETTIN' HITCHED!!
Welcome to our "wed"site! We've created this wedsite as a fun, convenient, and special way for friends and family who are both near and far to celebrate with us. We hope you'll use it to get to know us better and keep up-to-date on our future plans.
So, why did we choose a destination wedding in Mexico?... the short answer is that we wanted it to be a vacation for everyone involved (including us!) This, of course, meant that we would be leaving a huge chunk of people without an option to attend (shout out to all of our pregnant or trying-to-get-pregnant family and friends!!)... we will miss you on the big day. But, for those of you who can make it, we promise that it will be a vacation for the books! Full of fun-in-the-sun adventures, poolside relaxation, and conversations that leave you laughing so hard you might pee a little... not to mention unlimited food, booze, and funky dance moves (see what I did there?)
We just wanted to say that we are beyond grateful for all the positive influences in our lives. Thank you to all our friends and family for your love and support over the years... you are the reason for our happiness and we are truly lucky to be able to call you "ours".
Now, go strap on your sombrero and grab a corona, it's time to get married y'all!
Katie and Max
